“I am a potter turned stamp maker by necessity. Frustrated that I couldn’t find texture rollers in the specific patterns or sizes that I wanted for my work and dismayed by the prices of the few that I liked, I decided to make them for myself. After lots of learning, testing, tweaking and experimentation, I was pretty happy with the quality and detail of the impressions I was able to achieve. Not long after, it dawned on me that other potters might want some of my texture rollers for themselves and may even be willing to pay for them! So, I’ve been setting aside some time to make small batches of 3-D printed texture rollers with an emphasis on quality and cost. Each roller is hand sanded and detailed after printing to ensure the cleanest and highest quality impression that I can provide at an economical price point.” Tips: The display images were all made with wet clay, fresh from the bag and no release agent (like cornstarch). This gives you an idea of what to expect with my stamps under the least ideal conditions. 1. For best results and the cleanest impressions, I recommend letting your clay reach a soft to medium state of leather-hard. 2. Then, use a squeegee or rubber/silicone rib to remove any unwanted texture. 3. For super fine detailed stamps or if you’re using wet clay, I suggest dusting either the roller or the clay slab with a fine amount of cornstarch. This will help the clay release from the stamp with minimal distortion. 4. To achieve a steady, consistent impression, use a piece of wood (approximately the same width as the stamp) to roll the pattern outward. This helps prevent the stutter marks and unevenness usually associated when rolling out with your hands.
